Thank you so so much for all of this valuable information! It is like winning the lottery for me! I am new owner to Cricut and it has been challenging for me to find free cut files. I really appreciate your advice and recommendations! Hi im new to Cricut and im having a bit of trouble converting any file to svg or something I can use and upload on the cricut.

Do I want to buy a Cricut, or a Silhouette? Which one can you find more images for? Do both machines do the exact same thing? Any answers or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! When it comes to machines they both do very similar things.

The big difference is the software. Silhouette Studio is actual software that you install onto your computer and is accessible at all times. If you want to create your own designs, the Silhouette software is awesome. Cricut does do more marketing which is why they appear to be more popular. As far as images, you can find an abundance of designs for both machines.

Most people who design, design file that will work with both. I hope this answered some of your questions. March 21, By Brooke Leave a Comment. This post may contain Amazon and other affiliate links. It felt like I had to learn Design Space all over to show her how to do it on her iPad. And one place that stumped me for a good bit was getting SVG files into design space.

But because of the file type, the downloads will always be in a zipped file. This is usually what trips people up. To do that right click on the zipped folder and click extract all.

You can also open the folder and click extract all from the top menu. And some operating systems may automatically extract the files when the zip file is opened. Next there will be a pop up telling the location the files will be extracted to.

Click the extract button. Now you will have two folders. One is zipped and has a zipper on the front and the other is a regular folder. Open the unzipped folder. So to upload your new SVG files to design space first open up design space. And then you are going to click the upload button. Finally, we are at the right place to upload our SVG files. You can either click the browse button and locate the folder and file that way. Or you can just go back to that unzipped folder you already have open, click on the file that is SVG scalable vector graphics and drag it over to the upload box.

The box will turn green and the SVG file will upload. When the SVG file uploads it will switch to a screen where you can see the image. This is also where you can add tags to describe the image or the project you are working on so you can find it later. Using a Mac, you simply double-click the file and it unzips for you.

A second folder will appear next to the zipped file with the extracted file. Some of the SVG files you receive will come with a few different file types. Also, some designers provide a PDF or word document with project instructions and licensing information. The file will upload onto the page and you can name and tag the file in a way that makes sense to you for future use.
